Responsibilities & Requirements
The Lannan Center at Georgetown University is a dynamic literary and cultural institution devoted to the public engagement of the contemporary written arts and to enriching the artistic and intellectual life of the Georgetown campus and community.
Under the supervision and direction of the Lannan Center Director, the Program Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and programs of the Lannan Center, including providing support for and executing the logistics of Lannan Center events such as the Readings & Talks Series and the annual Lannan Symposium. The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the Center’s budget, processing, and tracking all financial transactions. The core responsibilities of this role will include, but are not limited to:
- Speaker management: Coordinate all logistics related to speaker booking, including travel, accommodations, and itinerary collating.
- Track expenditures, issue honorarium payments and reimbursements to speakers or their agents, and submit expense reports and invoices.
- Event production: Responsible for all logistics related to program production, including event contracts with caterers, room reservations, audiovisual services, bookseller, onsite problem solving, and overseeing catering set-up and clean-up.
- Event management: Serve as the primary contact for participants, audience members, vendors, and any other faculty or staff involved with the events.
- Prepare marketing materials for events and programs. Create newsletters, build audiences through announcements and individual outreach with departments and faculty members, and manage social media accounts for Lannan Center.
- Design promotional materials, including posters, programs, and social media graphics.
- Maintain Lannan Center website and multimedia archive.
- Supervise student staff, including serving as direct manager of the student Program Assistant, assigning new responsibilities as needed.
- Oversee the Lannan Fellows Program and assist Lannan Seminar faculty with communications, Canvas, tracking attendance, and tech support in the Lannan Center.
- Manage the daily operations of the Lannan Center, serving as the primary point of contact for constituents, answering all inquiries, and resolving any problems or issues as they arise.
- Provide direct assistance to the Director, scheduling meetings, and maintaining communications with other departments and external organizations as needed.
- Lannan Center Maintenance: schedules use of and assists with external events in Lannan Center, including technical support.
- Must be available for Lannan Center events from approximately 3:30PM-9:00PM on the following dates:

Work Interactions
The Program Manager works under the direct supervision of the Lannan Center Director and will work closely with the Director of Readings and Talks, as well as the Lannan Visiting Chair. They will regularly collaborate with University constituents and outside vendors to execute events. This individual manages student assistants charged with supporting events at the Lannan Center.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of experience in event management and communications or combination of education and relevant experience.
- High level of organization and attention to detail.
- Strong management skills and ability to work independently and scrupulously.
- Excellent communication and writing skills with the ability to interact and successfully collaborate with a broad spectrum of constituents.
- Ability to negotiate contracts, and make on-the-spot decisions and work under continually changing conditions during events.
- Knowledge in literary culture and the arts.
- Technical proficiency in the following areas: social media management skills; visual literacy in design of print and online promotional materials (familiarity with Canva a plus); website management/design (knowledge of WordPress a plus); marketing using platforms such as Mailchimp.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of contemporary literature, including poetry, fiction, literary nonfiction, and works in translation.
- Proficiency in technologies related to the duties of the position, including GMS (Georgetown Management System) and EMS (Georgetown’s events management system).
