History

The Lannan Center at Georgetown University was brought into being by the Lannan Foundation in 2006, the product of an intellectually profitable and energetic collaboration that stretches back to 1989, Georgetown’s bicentennial year. That long collaboration includes annual operational support from the Foundation that grew dramatically and exponentially in the years that followed, culminating in a generous endowment from Patrick Lannan in 2014.

With this endowment, Lannan Center moved from the Department of English to the Office of the President, where it has been able to better serve the entire campus and unite disparate and dispersed departments and programs in furthering the exploration of contemporary literary art as social practice.
